Akira Ikegami playing the piano

Akira Ikegami received his Bachelor of Music and Master of Music in piano performance and piano pedagogy (study of teaching) from Temple University Boyer College of Music and Dance. At Boyer, Akira studied with Dr. Charles Abramovic and Professor Alexander Fiorillo. His other teachers include Mr. Timothy LeVan in Williamsport, PA, and Ms. Noriko Kamimura, with whom he took his first piano lesson and studied with until he left Japan.

Akira built his early teaching experiences as a faculty member at Settlement Music School and other institutions. As an independent instructor, he teaches students ranging from young children to senior citizens at various levels. As a piano YouTuber, he shares his knowledge and experiences through his video content and teaches students all over the world through his online piano studio.

He is also passionate about the inner workings and maintenance of pianos. As a certified piano technician, he tunes and maintains his own pianos, as well as his clients' pianos. His understanding of piano technology is also a unique expertise he can share with his students, which in return improves their understanding of how to control the wide range of the sound pianos can make.

As a pianist, Ikegami won 1st place in the 20th Annual Young Artists' Competition in Williamsport, PA, while he was going to a local high school as an exchange student. He performed Beethoven's Concerto No.1 with the Williamsport Symphony Orchestra in the Spring Concert. In 2009, he was selected to participate in Chautauqua Music Festival in Chautauqua, NY, where he studied with renowned faculty and collaborated with other musicians.
