The tuning pins of a piano Although it looks simple from outside, there are hundreds of moving parts working in harmony to respond precisely to the pianist's input. There are more than 220 strings that need to be tuned regularly to maintain the right pitch and coordination with other strings.

In the past, just like other pianists, I had always relied on my technicians to tune and maintain my pianos. Since becoming a certified piano technician, in addition to playing and teaching the piano, I've been enjoying tuning and maintaining my own and my clients' pianos.

Piano manufacturers recommend tuning your piano every 6 months. But the frequency of tuning depends on how the piano is used and/or how sensitive your ears are to detuning. For most people who casually enjoy the instrument, once a year may be acceptable, while I tune my studio's pianos every 3-4 months. I don't recommend going more than a year without tuning, as the strings become more resistant to tuning and it can lead to more expensive procedures.

Call or email us if you have any questions or to schedule an appointment. I will be happy to assist you keep your piano sounding its best.
